A Surrogate Band

A Surrogate Band is a new four-piece comprising Lee Harris, Dom Beken, Yaron Stavi and Ged Lynch — all four established musicians have performed or recorded with the original members of Pink Floyd as part of long and illustrious careers.

In a world already well served by Pink Floyd tribute bands, A Surrogate Band is deliberately something different. The band draws on the entire Pink Floyd songbook – from the earliest material through every era of the band and into the members’ solo work. The intention is to allow unexpected, rarely performed and overlooked pieces to sit alongside the iconic songs.

Guitarist Lee Harris founded Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets, conceived as a band dedicated to revisiting and performing the early years of Pink Floyd’s music. The band has played more than 200 shows worldwide, bringing this rarely performed period of the Pink Floyd catalogue back to the stage for audiences across the UK, Europe, North America and Australia.

Dom Beken played an integral role in Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets alongside Lee Harris, combining keyboards with sound design and sonic textures that became a distinctive part of the band’s live sound. He is also a long-standing member of The Orb, with whom he has recorded and performed extensively.

Bassist Yaron Stavi has performed and recorded with David Gilmour and has also worked with artists including Robert Wyatt, Phil Manzanera, Nigel Kennedy and Richard Galliano.

Drummer Ged Lynch has worked with an extraordinary range of artists including Peter Gabriel, David Gilmour, Goldfrapp, The Charlatans, Electronic, Yusuf/Cat Stevens and Tom Jones.

Harris explains the band’s approach:

We honour the iconic moments that all of us love whilst allowing the music to evolve live, just as Pink Floyd did on stage. This isn’t about trying to reproduce a recording note-for-note. It’s four musicians with a genuine connection to the music playing it together and seeing where it can go in the moment.

Dom adds:

The Saucerful of Secrets project with Nick Mason gave us the opportunity to work with Floyd’s material in the way they found most creative and which brought audiences the Pink Floyd fans appreciate: sheer joy in the music and connection to the audience. This is a continuation of the formula that brought that connection with the musicians who know it best.

A Surrogate Band makes its live debut at The Half Moon, Putney, London in March 2027, performing Pink Floyd’s Meddle and Eclipse in their entirety, alongside additional music from the same era of Pink Floyd’s catalogue. The performances will serve as the launch of a new chapter for the four musicians.
